2 Thessalonians Ch2
2 Thessalonians 2 -ASV
1. Now we beseech you, brethren, touching the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and our gathering together unto him;
The authors of the letter are so serious as to beseech/beg the reader for action.
The gathering together, such as through fellowship, truth, preaching, standing for Christ; having everything for Him and to Him is so important as requiring very special attention and action.
2. to the end that ye be not quickly shaken from your mind, nor yet be troubled, either by spirit, or by word, or by epistle as from us, as that the day of the Lord is just at hand;
To the end! Not just a fancy trip.
Not for a while, and enter a recess. But all the time until the very end.
That day of the Lord is so close. It is at hand. It is within grasp; our grasp.
3. let no man beguile you in any wise: for it will not be, except the falling away come first, and the man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition,
A reminder that christians should know their time, and be aware of deceit and temptation.
It is still some time before our age is complete.
We will meet a day when there does not seem to be any good progress. We ought not give up / lose heart, be dismay, for these events are foretold by the revelation of our Lord.
The man of sin is yet to appear in the World. A man of lawlessness, destruction, opposing love, righteousness, truth, spiritual edification, and goodness.
This man is so special, so outstanding, that he is not any pope; not all the popes; not an institution of many men and women. He is singularly one man. One soul. One individual.
Christians and Protestants are not swayed by Roman Catholics to turn their target, identification, aim, fix, sight, search to somebody else, other than somebody in the Roman Catholic Organisation (establishment, machine, state). The bible does not teach that the anti-Christ is a line of evil doers; or an ongoing organisation of lawless ones. This great evil doer, the symbol of sin, iniquity, lawlessness, he that leads the fall away, may well be a Roman Catholic Pope, or a Catholic, or a respondent.
4. he that opposeth and exalteth himself against all that is called God or that is worshipped; so that he sitteth in the temple of God, setting himself forth as God.
So far, the Roman Catholic church has opposed the bible, the law of God, the Christ, christians, and all other religion.
All Popes set themselves as supreme priest, and spiritual ruler on earth. No one would share the overseeing, dictating office with others.
There is also the mentioning of the temple of God, a person can sit inside.
This temple can be a hologram.
This temple may well be a physical building.
It is said that the Jews have identified the site the temple is supposedly built on in the past. Israelites are negotiating peace with the Palestinian non-Jews. Soon, it may be in the future, that the Israelites may negotiate the building project and get the temple built again.
The Most High has again allowed His Holy Place to be taken over shortly by outcasts. The anti-Christ will be thought of as alright when he entered the temple. some people refuse to accept that the Almighty God can even put up with sin for a short time, and still be in control.
Actually the Almighty had decreed an end to all these evil in this passage and in others in His revealed scriptures. Nothing is left for surprise. God has always been in control.
5. Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things?
They were told before.
Yet people needed to be reminded again and again.
The truth cannot be overemphasised because of love, because of care, brotherly love, Divine Love.
6. And now ye know that which restraineth, to the end that he may be revealed in his own season.
The time, season is set. No earlier, and no later.
The law of time is still restraining this evil.
7. For the mystery of lawlessness doth already work: only there is one that restraineth now, until he be taken out of the way.
We have sins. We have the Roman Catholic Church and association.
Evil is not unheard of. Certainly not unthought of.
Such evil is a mystery. Christians may not understand fully how all the evil are linked.
What is certained is that evil will run its course, and God is still in control.
The evil will be removed. God is in control all the time, from era to era, epoch to epoch.
8. And then shall be revealed the lawless one, whom the Lord Jesus shall slay with the breath of his mouth, and bring to nought by the manifestation of his coming;
When the millenium is over, and the evil comes again, Jesus will slay him without earthly, human effort.
9. even he, whose coming is according to the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,
Lies supported by all power we understand and signs.
Many think that signs are sufficient proof of matters and events.
Many have little comprehension of mysteries.
Lies so superior to what we may know that they are wonders.
10. and with all deceit of unrighteousness for them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
The show is for those that perish.
They are given what they long for; support to follow sin and to sin.
They have rejected the love of the truth, the God Almighty.
They were not without chance or without choice. They have chosen their path, direction, sight, vocation, their destiny.
They have not chosen salvation before all deceit of unrighteousness are released for display of evil and following.
11. And for this cause God sendeth them a working of error, that they should believe a lie:
Not just a lie. Not so soft and common. It is one particular Lie. A pointer.
The(3588 - def. article) Lie.(Gk - too pseudei) The thing that is pseudo.. The thing that is not the right stuff it is replacing.

12. that they all might be judged who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
They are willing to believe in the thing that substituted the truth. (too pseudei - the lie - the untrue)
They have had pleasure in that substitution which is in truth and reality a substitution - unrighteousness.
13. But we are bound to give thanks to God always for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, for that God chose you from the beginning unto salvation in sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:
God is so gracious that you cannot resist giving thanks to Him.
Paul also reminds them they are the Lord's beloved; and God chose them. Never was it that men, given a chance with freewill, would choose God.
14. whereunto he called you through our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Christians, the elect are called. They did not take the initiation to reach God. God took the initiation.
Jesus also called His disciples. They did not initiate their first coming to Him.
15. So then, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye were taught, whether by word, or by epistle of ours.
Not brothers and sisters; but brethren. The Roman Catholic claim that brothers and sisters are addressed collectively as brethren has no scriptural witness. Brethren is addressed as brethren at all times.
What was taught by the apostles is the tradition; not some progressive changes in later days.
The verbal instruction and the letter of the apostles is the composition of the traditions.
Church history and denominational development are not.
16. Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God our Father who loved us and gave us eternal comfort and good hope through grace,
This is the doctrine of unity - that our Lord Jesus is also God our Father.
The Holy Spirit is not mentioned here.
Christians are not spiritual by concentratiny on the Holy Spirit.
Spirituality depends on knowing our Lord Jesus Christ and God our Father; their love and eternal comfort and good hope. To have the grace imparted by God is to be spiritual.
This is understood by the help of the Holy Spirit.
Those who have the Spirit can be taught by the Spirit, and be led into all truths.
17. comfort your hearts and establish them in every good work and word.
Work and word are two separate action and deed. Speaking is not the same as doing.
The hearts of christians are established in every good work and word, according to the will of the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ.
The good work is not left to some super apostles to complete.
We have a share in every good work and word.
