Examining Jewish geneaology from Exodus
Rational thinkers claimed that:
1) Israelite population in the Old Testament times is reported to have millions at times.
2) Human population only increased exponentially, abruptly, steeply at the Industrial revolution. Population increased gently, if at all, in the past.
3) Jewish geneaology does include every generation, even the name of all sons.
4) Too many sons are reportedly from the same father.
Exodus 1 vv15,16
v 15
Then the king of Egypt spoke to the Hebrew midwives, one of whom was named Shiphrah, and the other was named Puah;
v 16
and he said, "When you are helping the Hebrew women to give birth and see them upon the birthstool, if it is a son, then you shall put him to death; but if it is a daughter, then she shall live."
.2 Hebrew midwives are mentioned, the the king could order to carry out his plan for male elimination.
This suggests that the Hebrew population was rather small, as 2 midwives could take care of all childbirth of the race.
Only 2 names are mentioned, suggesting that only 2 were available at the time. It is unlikely that the king missed out any midwife, as the profession is known and the professionals are known to the race and to the tax-collectors and to the governors.
If the aim was to eliminate some male babies, the king certainly would not missed ordering all midwives known to the people. And only 2 were recorded. Hardly enough to deliver tens of thousands of babies.
Ex Ch1 v 22 emphasise the Pharaoh's idea was to eliminate all male babies. So, he did not just ordered 2 out of many midwives to eliminate all the boys.
Ex 12 v 37 - Now the sons of Israel journeyed from Rameses to Succoth about six hundred thousand men on foot, aside from children. [young men are not children]
Probably a number less than 2 million.
Applying the population proportion of Ezra Ch 2, about 2 male to 1 female, the total number of Israelites is just over 1 million and below 2 million.
Why so many people? In Ex Ch 1 v 20 we read that God multiplied the childbirth; and it has been some time since the birth of Moses.
