Behold your mother

John is the only record for these words of Christ.

John19 vv25-27:

25. These thins therefore the soldiers did. But there were standing by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene.

26. When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son!

27. Then saith he to the disciple, Behold, thy mother! And from that hour the disciple took her unto his own home. -asv

v25 Three women named Mary stood by the cross. A very common name even amongst those who knew Christ.

No mentioning of any Virgin Mary. No Madonna.

Joseph, the father of Jesus, was not there. He probably passed away sometime ago.

v26 That disciple whom Jesus loved was standing there. Jesus brought him into His immediate family of love. Jesus comforted Mary by giving her another son to live with. An immediate gain even before an imminent lost.

This also shows us that disciples of Christ are not called to give up their families and family lives in order to serve the Lord.

v27 Christ also gave His beloved disciple a mother, His mother.

This verse also hinted that the brothers and sister of Christ had deserted them; probably for fear. Mary was there. She trusted in the providence of God. Death is not the answer to life.

No explanation. No questioning. That disciple took His words seriously. A family relationship was formed right there.

Friends, it does not take long to believe in Christ. It does not take long to receive from Him. With God we are more than conquerors.
