How terrible are Smoking Pastors ? !
"I often come across pastors and church leaders who smoke and drink."" reports a returning missionary.
"How terrible! How could they?" I was not the only one who had to suppress the disgust.
"But, I have learned not to judge them based on that. They report to non-Christian officials, for whom smoking and drinking is the norm." she continued.
It is always much easier to equate holiness with keeping a list of behaviors to avoid rather than a list of thing we should do. The problem of having a list for holiness is no list is long enough.
How about this Biblical approach of holiness?
Therefore, prepare your minds for action; be self- controlled; set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed. As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: "Be holy, because I am holy." 1 Peter 1:13-16 (NIV)
Holiness starts in the mind and apostle Peter did not have a list. But what about this short list?
Am I living in ignorance of the need to be holy?
In contrast to a year ago, am I becoming more like Jesus? Can I tell and can others tell?

And pray for our brothers and sisters. And pray that we will not fall into temptation.
